SOME ACCOMPLISHED AND ONGOING PROJECTS OF  WYEF IN AFRICA ARE:

 

 

 

1.     GREEN DEFENCE PROJECT:

This project is an agricultural programme designed to develop youth capacity in food production and environmental protection.

 

 

SUB-PROJECTS:

1.1  GREEN NIGERIA MOVEMENT:

Project theme -"Food for the youth, Power to the Nation" .

 

This is a project designed by WYEF to attract youth interest in agricultural development and food production in Nigeria.

 

By this project students in primary and secondary schools who are top scorers in their agricultural subjects are awarded an annual scholarship. This scholarship includes payment of tuition fees, provision of school uniforms and books.

 

WYEF organizes an annual agricultural competition where youth from various local government and state government in Nigeria compete for a price : making agriculture interesting and full of fun. The GNM  project  hopes to eradicate un-employment,  hunger and poverty. 

 

GNM Project commenced on the 5th of January 2000. Over 20 Acres of land has been cultivated by WYEF's volunteers in Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria.

 

 

 

 

 

2.     SOCIAL EVANGELISM MOVEMENT & ANTI-HIV/AIDS CAMPAIGNS:

This project is designed to train and equip youth with accurate and up-to-date knowledge about leadership principles, constitutional rights, occupational health and safety issues, first aid and paramedics skills and HIV / AIDS prevention knowledge. SUB-PROJECTS:

 

2.1. WYEF MUSIC & DRAMA SQUARD: WYEF's music and drama squad uses music and drama as effective tools to inform the community about health and social issues including HIV//AIDS awareness campaigns. 2.2  OPERATION FIELD STORM: Project to train footballers and football captains as peer educator on health-(HIV/AIDS) and leadership. 26 football captains from different clubs in Lagos State, Nigeria were trained as peer educators. Each of these football captains in turn trained 22 of their team members in all a total of 572 persons were trained in 3 months.  For more information click on this URL: https://worldyouth1.tripod.com/hiv/id13.html

 

 

 

2.3.  UNITED CHRISTIAN ACTION FOR HEALTH (UCAH)  PROJECT:

3.        WOMEN OF VALOUR INITIATIVE:

4.      SKILLS / MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT & EMPLOYMENT BANKING SCHEME:

This Project is designed to develop entrepreneurial skills in youth and provide information about job opportunities.

 

 

 

SUB-PROJECT:

 

4.1   FREE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS IN VARIOUS STATES IN NIGERIA  : Project commenced Jan. 2000  - ongoing till date.\

 

 Through WYEF's  manpower development programs the organization has been able to provide jobs to the un-employed youths.

 

 WYEF provides financial assistance to street kids, orphans and disadvantaged youth in order to assist them to acquire technical skills, attend trade courses or to pay for tuition fees that will assist them to finish  either a formal or an informal education.

 

Some of the skills successfully gained by beneficiaries of WYEF's manpower development scholarships are:

*    Printing, Arts and Designs skills;

*    Computer repairs,  maintenance and desktop publishing skills

*    Mobile Phone repairs skills;

*    Fashion designing and Tie & Dye skills;

*   Carpentry; Plumbing & Electrical installation skills

*   Hair dressing, beauty & cosmetics skills

 

Beneficiaries are now living a better life by being entrepreneurs to small-scale businesses or employees in businesses. 

 

Through this project crime has reduced by 30% in benefiting communities. Family income has increased by over 300% therefore enabling benefiting families improve in their lifestyle. 

 

     

 

 

       4.2 COMPUTER LITERACY PROJECTS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES:

5.    " SECURITY, SAFETY & EMERGENCY DIRECTORY" PROJECT: SSED Project is designed to produce and distribute  5 million free copies of a directory containing contact details and phone  numbers of Security and Emergency Agencies in Nigeria to Nigerians and foreigners living in Nigeria.:

 

 

     SSED Project  commenced on the 3rd Jan. 2003 and would be  sustained until 2015.
